Chris Berens

OK, so, in my lovely estimation, the images of Chris Berens are so messed up they reside considerably outside the bounds of the surreal. Either that, or they’ve just hatched from the big freaky egg laid by the Surreal’s own mother. Whatever their home turf, I completely love these pics of his.

You have to love artists who give a crap about texture, about the way light strikes the globs of paint on their canvas. Magic happens there.

This series is called Alice in Waterland and it’s another mother/daughter photo project with a trained artist behind the lens. (See Robin Schwartz)

SSIN aka Kim Sin Hye

There has been a tractor trailer load of psy artists attempt images like this, and all have ended up hitting buses full of stoners on their way to nowhere. This Korean lady, SSIN, having successfully leapfrogged her primitivist roots, has hit a home run with this one.

The work of this Greek freelancer seems like art trapped in the body of commerce. (Hey, wasn’t that the plot of Pretty Woman?)

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope your day is as <cliché> as a <cliché’s> <cliché>. What are you doing on the computer anyway? Good gravy, you should be chugging nogs or roasting your nuts by an open fire or something. Get outa here. Go on.

Belin

Spaniard artist Belin uses cans of spraying paint to create these pieces on the concrete walls of his city, Linares. All the kids are trying to copy him now, but most of them only get as far as signing their names. Then they get bored and give up.

This is a tiny sample from the series of images of the photographer’s daughter called, Amelia’s World. Elephants, various monkeys, camels, horses, sheep, deer, they all seem to be Amelia’s buddies. Reminds me of that book by Opal Whiteley where the little girl has her own little menagerie and each of the creatures bears the name of an historical personage.
